Deepwater Horizon Oil Leak

On April 20, 2010 the Deepwater Horizon, an oil rig drilling in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana, exploded with disastrous results.  The rig was leased to BP, one of the world’s largest energy companies.  Over 5 months the rig spewed oil, with estimates varying from 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) to more than 25,000 barrels (a million gallons) per day.

This guide will provide links to information on the spill, the clean-up responses, as well as background information on offshore oil drilling.
